Value and Significance

The collections expand our knowledge of how labor, race and civil rights interface to shape the experiences of Mexican and Mexican Americans in Arizona, one of the most understudied regions in the United States. This is important because scholars’ interpretation of the history of Mexican Americans in the southwest have not always explored the Arizona experience.

Through the use of the hidden collections contained in this project, Mexican and American and international scholars, students , researchers and the general public will discover and understand the broader issues of Mexican American socio-economic, labor, political, and ethno-history and life within the context of the United States and Mexico, as well as the history and politics of the American West.
